Richard's Good News Story of the Week concerned a constituent who was having an issue with the Child Maintenance Service and his required payments.
"Mr G of Basildon got in touch after a very difficult situation emerged regarding the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) payments between him and his ex partner.
He received a letter from the CMS saying he owed thousands of pounds to them and this would be looked on unfavourably right across the board. Obviously, Mr G was in some distress at this point because, despite working full time and keeping up with what he thought were his payments throughout, he now had the potential of being plunged into serious financial difficulties.
Mr G and his ex-partner's relationship had completely broken down, which was making the situation even worse, and access was proving very difficult.
He got in touch with me and my team after trying for months to get the situation resolved. It was relatively quick to spot that there was clearly an error in the CMS calculations as Mr G had been assiduous in keeping proper records.
After a bit of to-and-fro with the CMS, he was awarded £150 for the error and all of his issues on that front at least were eased.
Whilst we won't be able to get success with every case, my team and I will always do our best to help every constituent who comes to us.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me for help via www.richardholden.org.uk/contact."
