Richard visited Amazon's Last Mile depot in Basildon to meet staff and see the operation.
"Very interesting visit to Amazon’s Last Mile DSS2 depot in Basildon. As the name describes perfectly, the depot is the last stage in the process, where orders are delivered to your home or place of work. They have 150 vans a day delivering up to 105,000 items a day. It’s a logistical feat and they also recycle 87% of their waste. It was great to hear about the apprenticeship programme, open to staff of all ages with around 50% of the staff already benefiting from up skilling.
"They are a big local employer and it was encouraging to see the steps they are taking to support their workforce of c. 200 at the site, many of whom live in Basildon and Billericay."
