Richard visited the team at the Urgent Care Centre at Basildon Hospital.
"Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust are taking an innovative approach, with an urgency care centre on site at Basildon Hospital to ensure those who need urgent mental health support can get specialist treatment on site rather than having to go via A&E. This innovative centre supports 200-300 people a month with urgent mental health needs. It was very interesting to tour the facilities and meet the team working in the centre.
"I’ve said it before, but it is vital that we all realise that mental health care is as important, overlaps with and is as necessary as top physical health care. I want to praise Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust for establishing this centre and to thank all the staff I met and those I didn’t for the important services they provide to our local community."
