Richard has welcomed the announcement that pay-as-you-go contactless will launch across the entire c2c line from Sunday 2 February, including at Laindon and Basildon stations.
On Thursday 23 January, Richard joined the c2c team at Basildon in his constituency to help inform them of the change.
Richard said:
“When I stood for election, my six priorities for Basildon and Billericay included delivering contactless payments across all our public transport. With this announcement from c2c will deliver on their part of the promise.
“c2c have conducted months of development and rigorous testing to get the technology ready to implement across their network. Residents living in Basildon and Laindon and the surrounding area will soon benefit from quicker, easier travel and cheaper travel, saving up to £3 on a single peak time fare between Basildon and London.
“I will be campaigning to ensure that we see Billericay station follow suit as quickly as possible to see more of the improvements that I have campaigned for since my election. However, this is just the beginning of the journey and I’ll keep pushing for more improvements, including more new rolling stock on c2c, better frequency on Greater Anglia, and longer term replacement of the ageing overhead line infrastructure.”
