Richard visited St Mary Magdalene Church in Great Burstead. The church traces its roots to Norman times and needs to raise approximately £50,000 for repairs to its spire. To donate to the church, please use this link: https://givealittle.co/c/6xC5vQ1W6MqmIPRjAvrFS0.
Speaking after the visit, The Rt Hon Richard Holden MP said:
“I met with Father Michael and the brilliant volunteers at St Mary Magdalene who dedicate their time to the upkeep of the church, protecting it for future generations with very little help. This beautiful ancient church has stood for hundreds of years and is a lifeline to the local community.
The Listed Places of Worship Scheme is vital for small and historical churches like theirs, and I’m deeply disappointed with the Government’s choice to tax places of worship. This will have a devasting impact on churches and other places of worship at the heart of our community. I implore anyone with some spare cash to consider donating to the church to help them reach their goal of almost £50,000 to repair the historic spire.”
