My last job before becoming an MP was in the Department for Education. I work to hold them to the account and push them to level up education in the constituency. Improving education is one of my key priorities and something I have always had a strong interest in.
I’ve worked closely with local schools and Durham County Council throughout the pandemic to ensure that no child gets left behind. The Government has delivered over 560,000 devices like laptops and tablets to schools throughout the UK to help with remote learning – North West Durham benefitted from nearly 2000 of these and we are set to receive more.
I’m also pushing lifetime learning and skills, so that people can continue to better themselves no matter what stage in life. The previous age limit was 23, but the Government have lifted that restriction and put a huge amount of extra funding into our Further Education Colleges. This gives people across North West Durham huge learning and skills opportunities.
