Richard recently met with the charity, Independent Age, in Parliament.
Speaking after the visit, Richard said:
"I was glad to be able to speak with staff from the charity Independent Age about pensioner poverty at a recent event in Parliament, especially after many constituents got in touch with me following the new Government’s decision to cut back hard on Winter Fuel Payments for the vast majority of pensioners.
I have serious concerns about potential future Labour policies for pensioners too, especially after the cruel Winter Fuel Payment cut.
Their insistence that only higher income pensioners will see the benefit removed is demonstrably untrue with less than one in 20 of those seeing it removed a higher or additional rate taxpayer and the majority of pensioners in ‘fuel poverty’ seeing it removed.
I will continue to do everything I can to stand up for pensioners across Basildon and Billericay."
